Technical Data

The Compressor Station area of approximately 8,862 m2, is located at the Nea Messimvria DESFA’s site, west of Thessaloniki, within DESFA’s existing facilities of Nea Messimvria Operations and Maintenance Centre and Back-up Control Centre (BCC). A plot area for the additional Compressor Station to be installed is foreseen in the existing facility layout in order to allow this expansion. The installation of the third Filter and third Turbine Driven Compressor is feasible through the tie-in points that already exist on the Inlet, Suction and Discharge headers. The station should be designed for un-manned operation. Normal operational control will be from Gas Control Centre of Patima (GCC) or Back up control centre of Nea Messimvria (BCC). Characteristics and parameters of the 3rd Gas Turbine Compressor, including all accessory mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment, should be identical or as close as possible with the two already installed and operating Gas Turbine Compressor.
All utilities are already designed, procured and constructed. The current project, namely Nea Mesimvria Compression Station Upgrade, includes the following:

  • Third Gas Compressor’s Individual Control Systems,
  • Third Motor Control Centre MCC-2301C,
  • Third UPS System (UPS-TC-2301-C),
  • Operation & Control Systems Upgrade for the integration of the 3rd Turbine Compressor, including, but not limited to:
  • Master Station Controller (MSC) and Load Share Panel (LSP),
  • Distributed Control System (DCS),
  • Emergency Shutdown System (ESD),
  • Process Shutdown System / Gas Detection System (PSD/GDS),
  • Station Control Room (SCR) equipment,
  • Fire and Gas System Control.

Description

The project concerns the Upgrade of the Nea Messimvria Compressor Station (U-2300). The Nea Messimvria Compressor Station was designed for operation in two phases. The first phase, which has been already constructed and operated, has included the installation of two Gas Inlet Filter / Separators and two Turbine Driven Compressors (including two Gas Air Coolers) in the operation of 2x100%, in a 1x100% duty / 1x100% standby configuration (one operating and one standby). At the second phase, an additional (third) Gas Inlet Filter / Separator and a third Turbine Driven Compressor (including a third gas air cooler), is foreseen to be installed so as the operating configuration will become 2 x 50% duty / 1 x 50% standby configuration (two operating and one standby). It should be possible to run safely three machines in parallel. The scope of this project is the construction of the second phase of Nea Messimvria Compressor Station (Nea Messimvria Compressor Station Upgrade) in order to provide the additional compression required in the Natural Gas Transmission System (NGTS) to meet the required flowrates and pressures.
