Description
IGI Poseidon SA is promoting the development of a gas pipeline project to transport natural gas from the South Eastern Mediterranean basin to the European Natural Gas Network, namely the Eastmed Poseidon Pipeline Project. The Eastmed-Poseidon Pipeline Project is classified as a Project of Common Interest (PCI) status according to the provision of EU regulation 347/2013. Eastmed Pipeline Project is the section connecting the gas sources in Levantine basin with Greece via Cyprus, while Poseidon Pipeline Project is the section crossing the Ionian Sea, aiming to bring the gas transported by Eastmed to Florovouni (on west coast of Greece), to the Italian national gas transport system.
Eastmed is designed to transport in its initial phase 10 bcm/y (11 bcm/y from the gas source till Cyprus where 1 bcm is left to satisfy local needs). The design and development of this first phase considers all engineering and development activities, including related pre-investments, to allow a possible increase of capacity up to 20 bcm/y at a later stage. Eastmed Pipeline Project is currently developing its FEED phase. The target of Eastmed-Poseidon Pipeline Project is to develop all activities needed to proceed with the Final Investment Decision in 2 years.
The Eastmed gas pipeline system consists of the following main components:
- OSS1 – Offshore pipeline from East Mediterranean gas source to Cyprus
- CS1/MS1 – Compressor and metering station in Cyprus
- OSS2 – Offshore pipeline from Cyprus to East Crete
- CS2/MS2 - Compressor and metering station in Crete
- OSS3 – Offshore pipeline from Crete to South Peloponnese
- CCS1 – Cross country pipeline from receiving point (South Peloponnese) to Achaia prefecture,
- OSS4 – Offshore pipeline crossing Gulf of Patras
- CCS2 – Cross country pipeline from Akarnania region to Poseidon Compressor and metering station in Thesprotia area
- CS 3 – Compressor station in West Greece; only required to achieve the ultimate system capacity
- Dispatching and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Bases
Current project refers to permitting onshore preparation of documents to obtain the authorizations and permitting for the onshore section
