In order to reduce transporting costs of spent Caustic Soda to a company abroad, as well as to comply with environmental restrictions, HELPE decided to modify the Light End Section of the Crude Distillation Units by utilizing Amine instead of Caustic Soda for Naphtha and LPG treatment.
Hydrogen sulfide gases were the consequence of these process changes, something which required the substitutions of certain equipment and piping with materials suitable for the new intended service.
