ASPROFOS, the engineering company subsidiary of the HELLENIC PETROLEUM Group, has undertaken the construction supervision of the project and the company JUWI the construction.
The Solar Power Plant in Kozani is the largest RES project in operation in Greece up to date and in the greater area of South-Eastern Mediterranean, as well as one of the largest photovoltaic parks in Europe. It has a total installed power of 204.3 MW and is expected to produce 350 GWh of energy annually, meeting the needs of 75,000 households with zero emissions. The total investment amounted to approximately €130 mil. The construction of the plant has been made with bifacial photovoltaic modules - the largest plant with this specific type of photovoltaics in Europe - and has a state-of-the-art automations system monitoring and checking production (Energy Management System). The project has been completed within the time schedule, despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic.
The Solar Power Plant in Kozani during construction had a significant benefit to the national economy, especially in the region of Western Macedonia, due to the creation of over 350 jobs. It is expected to significant benefits economy in the future too, because it will maintain dozens of direct and indirect jobs during its operation.
As the Prime Minister, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out during the inauguration of the Solar Power Plant in Kozani:
“This project is a symbol of the green transition both inside and outside the Greek borders. It is the largest solar power plant in South-Eastern Europe and one of the largest in the whole of Europe. Greece will become a leader in the sector of Renewable Energy Sources. It will adopt new innovative technologies", underlining that the target is “to convert green energy from a theoretical plan to an opportunity for development of our country"
